Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin

Pete the cat has 4 buttons on his shirt. He loves them and walks around singing a song about his groovy buttons. As he is singing one by one each button pops off. Does Pete cry when he loses a button? NO! he just keeps on singing his song 🙂 And when all his buttons pop off? He still finds something to sing about! The story is very sweet and Elijah loves Pete the cat. There is an official video for this book with the song available here.

What they learn:

  1. Disappointment happens ! Don’t cry just keep on singing your song. Everything will have a positive side to it.
  2. Subtraction. As Pete loses each button he asks how many are remaining? 4-1 =3.  So good for practicing simple subtraction.
  3. Great book for early readers with repetitive words and appealing illustrations.
